ABOUT THE GARDEN DESIGN SCHOOL

TEACHING LANDSCAPE GARDEN DESIGN TO HOME OWNERS

A garden where one may enter in and forget the whole world cannot be made in a week, nor a month, nor a year; it must be planned for, waited for and loved into being.

 Chinese proverb

Robyn Laurenson, of Laurenson Landscape Design, based on Auckland’s North Shore, is the principal tutor at The Garden Design School. Robyn is a multi-award winning landscape designer who has been designing gardens in and around Auckland since 1998. Robyn has a Bachelor of Science, a Teaching Diploma, and a Diploma in Landscape Design.

Lyndell Shannon will be running some of our classes from Term 2, 2011, onwards. Lyndell has had many years designing gardens, firstly in Wellington and more recently in Auckland.

The Garden Design School offers small and intimate landscape garden design courses of a high quality. These part-time courses are aimed at the home gardener who wants to have some input into his or her own garden design. These are do-it-yourself, project-based, garden design classes. No previous experience is necessary. We love assisting people through the process of transforming their gardens.

As someone who has a landscaping business, but deals with the administrative side of things, the course was a real eye opener and gave me an appreciation of just what goes into the preparation and creation of a landscaping plan.

I have “graduated” and have a lovely plan for my property to boot.

Kim Horgan, Director, All About Landscapes Ltd, Albany, North Shore

Other experienced landscape designers will join us as the Garden Design School grows. Course tutors will be available for ongoing consultations with course members at reduced hourly rates for a year after course completion.

HISTORY

Robyn grew up on a farm in Northland, and then moved to Auckland to study at University, gaining a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma of Teaching.

Robyn began her career as a Mathematics teacher before undertaking her OE. It was while working in London that she discovered there were easier ways to make a living than teaching teenagers! She began working in the computer industry, initially for Shell Exploration and Production in London, then for Fletcher Construction in New Zealand. After taking a few years out of the workforce to raise a family and develop her own home and garden, she retrained as a landscape designer.

Robyn lives in Beach Haven on Auckland’s North Shore, close to the inner Waitemata Harbour. She loves to walk and to travel throughout New Zealand, enjoying landscape photography and exploring our magnificent back-country.

Robyn has 3 adult children.
